Notes

Trade card for another proprietor of the Old Chelsea Bun House, in this case Edward Chapman. Chapman is listed in various documents as proprietor of the Chelsea Bun House between 1824 and 1836; presumably he worked alongside or on behalf of the final member of the original Hand family. To judge by the list of baked goods provided on the present trade card, the Bun House offered far more than its signature delicacy. The card displays the bakery’s distinctive shop-front, which Heal notes stood on what is now “the site of No.52 Pimlico Road”.
