One of a series of love map postcards intended to illustrate the the early German Romantic poet Heinrich Heine’s ‘Buch der Lieder’.
The poem illustrated here is:
“Wenn ich in deiner Augen seh’ so schwindet all’ mein Leid und Weh… (When I look into your eyes then vanish all my sorrow and pain…)
The two lovers look at each other across the sea; the woman’s profile outlined on the ‘Lied’ coast; where as the man, whose profile can be seen on the ‘Brust’ coast is shown reciting the poem.
