A map showing southern Africa and the Cape of Good Hope, with Madagascar visible in outline. The source of the River Nile at the foot of the fictional Mountains of the Moon (‘Mons lune’) is retained from Ptolemy. This is one of the 20 supplementary maps added by Waldseemüller, produced specially for this edition.
