Notes
A map showing northern Africa and the Middle East separated by the Red Sea. The portion of Africa covered reaches from Morocco to South Sudan, and shows the entirety of the River Nile. The depiction of the source of the Nile follows Ptolemy’s description, beginning in two large lakes at the foot of the fictional Mountains of the Moon (‘Mons lune’). An inscription across ‘regium Aethiopian’ notes the presence of elephants, rhinoceroses, and tigers.
