Notes

By the time Jansson published this plan in 1657, the London that it depicted was almost one hundred years out of date. The plan first appeared in various editions of Braun and Hogenberg’s Civitates Orbis Terrarum’ from 1572 until 1638. Soon after the final publication, Jansson acquired the plates and old paper stock. Although little revision was made to the plan itself, Jansson did remove the figures in the foreground, replacing them with a new title. The plan would be published in his very rare town book, Illustrorem principumque urbium septentrionalium Europae’.

Scale: 6 1/2 inches to 1 statute mile.
