Notes

Rare eighteenth century snuff box with a plan of Paris and its environs.

The map is the work of Jean Baptist Poirson (1761-1831) a French cartographer, and was published in one of his first cartographic works, ‘Atlas national des 83 departements’, published in 1792. The atlas consisted of 83 circular maps of the newly created administrative departments of the new French Republic.
