New website pays tribute to print’s ongoing appeal

The enduring appeal of beautifully-produced atlases, books and maps is seen in the launch of Mayfair-based Daniel Crouch Rare Books' new website, which has been created as an archive of the exquisite rare and antique printed artworks that have passed through the company. Among the many treasures to be found on the website is Blaeu’s monumental wall maps of the continents, a set of four engraved wall maps, each printed four sheets by the Venetian printer Stefano Scolari and based on originals by the Dutch cartographer, atlas maker and publisher Willem Blaeu. Other rare works include Ptolemaeus, a folio atlas, printed by Johann Schott in 1513, and featuring the earliest map printed in more than two colours.
